Everyone has an origin for an idea and mine has roots deep in the ground. I am a dietitian who loves all things food, cooking, gardening, learning, educating, traveling, and of course eating. I have learned a bunch over the years-including some epic kitchen, life, and garden fails. And all those experiences have brought me to the point where I want to share the ups and downs I’ve had with food and nutrition.
I was struggling with a way to embody all those things without the drollness of a website with my name Jenna Hartmann, dietitian displayed in bold. I can thank my Sable Rough Collie Thunder for an epiphany. Thunder LOVES carrots. I mean right out of the ground and directly into his mouth. Carrots! One day he and I walked out to the carrot patch and I started belting out the tune Everything is Coming up Carrots. (Substituting carrots for roses.) The song simply clicked. Thunder’s joy for carrots and my joy for food combined into Coming Up Carrots.
