In October we decided to take a quick weekend trip to hike a bit in Interlaken, Switerzland. Although I am an American, I had never been there despite it being a popular spot frequented by my countrymen. I am fortunate in that I don’t always have to follow the beaten path because my spouse is the living version of Google Translate and is comfortable driving in Europe. The trip was a nice respite from daily life and we returned home with many beautiful impressions. One of the things we saw often in the small villages we passed through were cheese vending machines. We had actually never seen them before in our travels through the Alps. We love a nice piece of cheese on occasion but didn’t buy any this time. Why? Neither of us wanted to continue hiking with stinky Berg (Mountain) cheese in our daypacks. Maybe next time.
